Banana Bread Instead of Fruit Flies

Banana bread loaf
How many times have you gone shopping to get fruit, end up taking a bunch of half a dozen or so bananas, and end up having most of them sitting on your counter a week later attracting fruit flies?  Wouldn’t you rather have a nice loaf of warm banana bread sitting on your counter attracting people? 😉

I’ve always been impressed, and noted to invite them back, when someone comes over with a fresh loaf of banana bread.  It smells great, tastes amazing, and seems difficult to make.  I’m used to paying $1-4 for just a slice of banana bread in a coffee shop!  Well finally I decided to see just how hard it was to bake something.  Keeping in mind here that the last thing I tried to bake was “ready made” Crème Brûlée  8 years ago, which turned out horrible and I gave up baking on the spot.

The recipe I tried was Banana Banana Bread at AllRecipes.com.  I have to admit; eggs, brown sugar, baking soda, and flour were not commonly used in my little abode, so I did have to go get them.  The good news is, although only 1 teaspoon of baking soda is needed, and they don’t come in packages that small :P, you can leave the rest of the box in the fridge or freezer and it will suck up the odors in there and make it smell fresher!  Two birds, one stone!

It really did only take 15mins to prepare, just like it indicated on the recipe, and a beautiful, tasty, great smelling loaf came out of the oven an hour later!  I think the total cost was under $2 for a fresh whole loaf!  Kept me snacking for over a week, and healthy too!
